Trigger Kiss

I’ve been wanting to play this game because I heard that it’s got gold comedy  (ノ*゚▽゚*)ノ True enough, I had plenty of laughs while playing the game XD. Big thanks to my friend Rikka for lending me her copy of the game! ♡

Possible spoilers ahead! ・´∀`・)

It’s the year 2083. The Akizuki High School Superpower Club has been suspended due to an assault incident that was instigated by one of its members two years ago. This year, however, the suspension is lifted and the Superpower club gets their final chance to get their club backif they win the national tournament. Now, their only problem is that they don’t have enough members to join the competition… luckily though, our heroine Sendou Futaba, who is secretly a superpower user, transfers to the school! Due to a personal incident in a superpower match years ago, Futaba initially refuses Azuma’s (the club captain) offer to join the superpower club and just wants to live a normal life, but she gets tricked into joining… by the scheming Yamato-senpai (the club vice captain). who else! Nonetheless, Futaba finds out that the club will be shut down forever if they don’t win the national tournament, so she decides to help them a little during the preliminary round. In the process, she’s forced to reveal “Trigger Kiss,” her superpower which allows her to power up anyone through a kiss!

Kanzaki Azuma (CV: Toriumi Kouske) is the captain of the Akizuki High School Superpower club. He’s the character being referred to in the game title, like, he’s always filled with burning passion and his life motto is, “Make the most out of our youth!” Despite being the captain though, Azuma is kind of dumb that it’s actually the vice captain Yamato who does the decision-making in the club. Even the kouhais (except Banri, of course) call him “baka” lmaooo. Still, Azuma is a good senpai with a good heart. Which is why it kind of sucks because the only thing worth mentioning out of his route is the reason why the club was suspended. The romance aspect is totally zero for me, because apart from the fact that the entire game has so little of it, Azuma is already not my type so I didn’t exactly pay attention to him?

Subaru Yamato (CV: Nojima Kenji) is the club vice captain who tricked Futaba into joining the club. He’s smart, so he ‘s usually the one thinking of strategies the team will use during matches. Yamato has a beautiful face and pretty hands (the prettiest among all of them, actually) imo, but he also has a sharp tongue that that spares no one. Which is most likely the reason why he doesn’t have many friends and he just spends his time either training or playing games. Despite all that, he’s my best boy in the game because omg tsundere!! (´ε` )♡ I love all the dokidoki scenes with him… if only there are actually more of those kind of scenes! It really sucks how they just shoved the confession RIGHT AT THE END of the route, with no proper romance development! I love Yamato but his route is the most unsatisfying ughhh I’m so angry at it  (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻ Thankfully, I love it when Yamato says “baka” ww

Kouga Mikado (CV: Abe Atsushi) is a second year, just like Futaba. His superpowers allow him to create and control electric shocks, which used to be really cool and strong when he was in middle school. Unfortunately, due to an incident, his superpower levels decreased and he decided not to join any more superpower competitions. Because of this, Futaba and Banri initially had a hard time convincing Mikado to join the club, but thankfully, Mikado soon realizes that he still wants to participate in competitions… so yeah, let’s join the club while hitting on Futaba! Mikado seems like he’s a flirt but in reality, he’s actually just nice to girls that Futaba and Banri thought that he’s dating a lot of girls lmao. Despite the heavy stuff on his route (which seemed to me like it’s so out of place in the game, tbh), Mikado is a fun person and he likes to tease people a lot, especially Futaba. He’s also as smart as Yamato when it comes to thinking of strategies or battles. And I love his hair. Best route in the game.

Yamada Banri (CV: Yamashita Daiki) is the resident shouta. He’s the cute little kouhai and Futaba teases him a lot, and it gets me every time because BANRI WHY SO CUTE COME TO ONEECHAN (ノ*゚▽゚*)ノ. Being a first year and the youngest in  the bunch, Banri is serious in doing his kouhai duties like cleaning the club room and buying stuff for senpais (even though they’re obviously just taking advantage of him ww). His superpower is creating laser beams but since he just recently learned that he’s a superpower user, he still can’t control it properly. Whatever the case, Banri is still soooo adorable and I can totally see why Futaba likes teasing him like he is her cute little bro (๑´ლ`๑).

So aside from the four Akizuki High Superpower club members, there are also two extra routes, which feature characters from the other schools. One is Mutsu Iwao (CV: Satou Takuya), the guy from Hokuyo Technical High School that Futaba and co. defeated during the first round of the competition. He’s this dude who looks like a delinquent but he’s actually a nice guy who even becomes really shy when around girls (๑´ლ`๑). I really like it when Iwao blushes that he even became my second best guy in the game! ww

The other extra route has Katsuragi Souya (CV: Hirakawa Daisuke), the long-haired beautiful guy from Hakuorin University Senior High school. He is very skilled in using his superpowers so his school is the incumbent national champion. I didn’t like him at first, but after seeing him help the gang in several other routes, I ended up being attracted to him because he has pretty face and hands too like Yamato ww.

The extra routes are short routes wherein the Akizuki High loses and Futaba interacts with either of the two. (Them losing made me really angry because isn’t winning the competition the whole point of this game?! I feel so bad for Azuma and Yamato who worked hard for the club, and Mikado whom they forced into joining ಠ╭╮ಠ). Personally, I think the game will do even without these extras, but I guess they helped in making the game longer? ww Well at least I like Iwao enough to care. (Fell in love with him the very moment he first appeared and blushed after seeing Futaba!‎ (ノ≥∇≤)ノ♡)

Of course, we should mention Sendo Futaba for being an awesome heroine! She may be a bit dense (just a little! especially in Yamato’s route), but she knows what she wants and has to do. Got tricked into joining a club she doesn’t really want to join? She flatly refuses the tricksters and even threatens them if they keep on forcing her  (*≧▽≦)ノシ Your kouhai is too cute? Tease him until he almost dies because of embarrassment ww All in all, I really like Futaba’s personality ☆

My character ranking? Yamato-senpai is first and Iwao is second  (ノ*゚▽゚*)ノ♥

I’ve been looking forward to play this game and after finishing it, I say I’m… a bit disappointed. The comedy is gold, the characters are all lovable, and story is okay but it really feels like something is missing, which is obviously the romance.

Okay, so I’ve played otome games without much romance, but I’m fine with that as long as the story is good. Unfortunately for Trigger Kiss, the story is mediocre (which, in my dictionary, is synonymous to “not my type”) so there was nothing to make up for the lack of romance. The game just left me very unsatisfied and wanting for more -but the sad part is there’s a 98% chance that we won’t be getting that “more” even in the form of an FD (゚´Д`゚)゚

And yes. I AM SO ANGRY THAT THE GAME IS SO SHORT. It has so much potential especially in the romance category. Yamato-senpai is totally my type and I really wish I had more time with him!! (ノД`)・゜・。 ・

Other than the shortcoming in the romance part (and the seishun story with ??? battle scenes being not my type), the game is good. I love all the characters (except Koga, maybe) because they never failed to crack me up with their antics (*≧▽≦)ノシ)) . The character interactions were so fun to read and the various sprites made playing even more… comical ww. I say this game has the best sprite collection(●´∀`)ノ♡ ♡

The system is also interesting, because you don’t “pick a line,” instead, you choose either how to say the line, what mood to feel, which expression to show, in the form of Futaba’s sprites. Which is awesome because choosing for Futaba’s expression in the choice-making parts highlighted Futaba’s personality even more.

The “kiss” feature, on the other hand, was really amusing (*≧▽≦)ノシ. Trigger Kiss is one of the first games for the PS Vita and that feature was an attempt to make use of the vita’s touchscreen, so I think they did well on coming up with that idea. PS: I tried kissing the PS Vita screen and it worked www

The art is hands down beautiful (Yamato’s pretty face and Mikado’s hair pls). I wouldn’t play this game if it isn’t ww It’s reminiscent of shounen manga style and I think it worked really well with the “fire of youth!” and “kamehameha” theme of the game.

I love the characters, but the game as a whole is so unsatisfying. I wouldn’t have mind the story being not my type, if only they added more in the romance aspect to make up for it. I’m still holding on to the little chance that this game gets an FD, because I want more Yamato-senpai ;w;

Will I recommend this game? Maybe, if you’re looking for good comedy. (But then you can also get that much comedy in otome games with so much better stories *cough*Taisho Alice*cough*.)
