Wanting to pursue her dreams as a fashion designer, Sanjo Yunoha left her boring ryokan life in Kanazawa to study in Tokyo. Two years later though, she comes back after receiving news that her mother Misuzu, the Fukujurou onsen ryokan proprietress, was hospitalized. As per the doctor’s order, Misuzu needs to take a break from tending their ryokan, so Yunoha is forced to act as the Fukujurou’s young proprietress while her mother is away. Being the proprietress won’t be easy though, because a new resort ryokan, the Seihoukaku, has just opened nearby, and it’s getting more attention than Fukujurou! Now, what will Yunoha, as the young proprietress, do in order to build a name for Fukujurou?

This is a spoiler-free review of the game ・´∀`・)

Katagiri Kintaro (CV: KENN) is Yunohana’s childhood friend and the current head clerk in Fukujurou. He is very passionate about his job and wants nothing  but the best for Fukujurou and its guests. Kin-chan fully supports Yunoha and her dreams, but he can be bit tsuntsun about his feelings sometimes (๑´ლ`๑)

Saeki Kouta (CV: Ishida Akira) is a chef in Fukujurou. Aside from cooking, he also likes animals… but animals don’t seem to like him (poor Kouta!). Because of being frequently bullied by his older sister and younger sister, Kouta grew up to be a very awkward guy (ww), but I always find awkward Ishida Akira characters to be really cute so (´ε` )♡

Izumi Takahira (CV: Kimura Ryouhei) is the guy from Seihoukaku who always intrudes in Fukujurou just because he loves bothering them ヽ( ´∀`)ノ. He seems to have lots of free time because he’s always in Fukujurou that the Fukujurou people have started wondering if he still hasn’t been fired for skipping work too much. Izumi is a flirt who looks like he’s just having fun all the time, but his route actually has the most content, among all the other routes in the game! (Best route, I say).

Katsuragi Naomasa (CV: Sugiyama Noriaki) is a new employee at Fukujurou. Apparently, his credit card was denied when he tried to pay for his accomodation fees in Fukujurou, so he started to working as a room personnel to pay for his bills, despite being really bad at household chores. He looks like a shy clumsy boy at first, but wait until you see his true colors! (I was very surprised!)

Meanwhile, the heroine Sanjo Yunoha is an admirable heroine who makes sure she gives her 100% in everything. Even though she was just forced to do the wakaokami job, she still put in effort to do her best for Fukujurou. And while at it, she never gives up on her dream as a fashion designer by practicing design and drawing every time she’s free from the ryokan work. Also, she’s not clueless when it comes to romance, and knows if she likes someone or not!

I have nothing bad to say about Yunohana Spring!, really. It’s just a short and simple game with a lighthearted story about a 20-year old girl who wants to pursue her dreams while still doing her “daughter and wakaokami duties”. It may not be a part of my highly recommended games, nor my favorite games, but I still had a good time playing it, because it’s quite good (but not great) in all aspects: story, romance, characters, art.

Controls are very typical of Otomate, though the game has this system called “Decision of Proprietress” where you have to pick between two choices. One of the two choices will increase the 女将度, and this status will determine the route ending you will get. There are also parts where you have to choose where to go (who to talk to) in the map. There’s nothing really special about this, although it’s nice that you can see the layout of the Fukujurou in the map.

Art is pretty, though this may be because I’m biased to its pastel color scheme. Everything in the visuals screams pastel and my eyes are very pleased (ノ*゚▽゚*)ノ♡.

If you’re planning to go to Kanazawa, maybe you can try playing Yunohana Spring? Since the game is set there and there are parts in the story when Yunoha and the guys tour their ryokan guests in must-visit places. Seeing places in Kanazawa in pastel color actually made me want to visit the place someday! (*^▽^*) (Though it’s quite far from Tokyo……)

Recommended for people who want to play a lighthearted game (with art that has very cute pastel color scheme ♡ ), especially those who want a break from zetsubou ヽ( ̄ω ̄(。。 )ゝ
