The story happens in the distant future, after the last great war. The earth has been left in ruins and the pollution is really bad that the lifespan of mankind has been halved. At a slum area, a young man named Sud meets Atharva, a fugitive in search for a girl who is said to be a survivor from the old world and has the ability to clean the earth of pollution. After being chased by the government army that are after Atharva, the two young men escape and find themselves in an underground shelter called the Neosphere. There they meet the Neosphere’s only residents: a 3000-year old girl named Eve and her AI guardian Cradle. Sud and Atharva try to persuade Eve into going with them to save the earth, until they get attacked by Atharva’s pursuers. At this, what appears before them is Tier Blade, a white gundam mecha with the duty to protect Eve.

This is a non-spoiler review of the game・´∀`・)

Characters

Sud (CV: Ishikawa Kaito) is the good boy hero of any mecha story who just wants to save his friends. He lives in the slum area so he’s pretty good at survival. That’s pretty much all the non-spoilery stuff about him but I LOVE HIM SO MUCH!! HE’S MY BEST BOY and I’m really sad that he’s so underappreciated for a poster boy. He’s a really kind kid with a good back story and I wish he gets more love he deserves (´°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥ω°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥`)

Atharva (CV: Terashima Takuma) is a sheltered guy who is escaping from the government. As per the last words of his late older brother and the memories implanted to his mind, he is searching for Eve. Atharva is pretty much an obocchan because for the whole his life he just stayed inside their mansion, and thus, his stamina is also crap. But he’s really cute when he’s embarrassed?? (๑´ლ`๑) I like his character design too!

Yajur (CV: Kondo Takashi) is… a dead body from the old world that Eve and the gang brought back to life. His memories from when he was still living 3000 years ago are still hazy, but based on Cradle’s database, it seems that he worked as a congressman. Yajur is the adult among the gang but he is big flirt smh ww. Personally, I don’t really like Yajur because of… certain things that happened to my best boy Sud in all routes ;;;

Row (CV: Matsuoka Yoshitsugu) is government army VIP who’s targetting Eve. The first time Row appeared, he straight ahead told Eve that he can finally die with her like wow smh. It appears that he knows Eve, though Eve and Cradle doesn’t know him. Row did a lot of screaming that I felt so bad for Tsuguu’s throat ww. As I expected, Row topped the character poll. Them people do like the insane guy.

Cradle (CV: Kakihara Tetsuya) is the AI robot of Neosphere. He also acts as Eve’s guardian. His route is pretty much just for fanservice but I’m not complaining because little boy Cradle is sooooo cute!! (´ε`*)  But really, even robot Cradle is cute! Just look at this Cradle crying expression hngggggh such a cutie ♡(*´∀`*)

Eve as a heroine… is okay, I guess. She’s so innocent and clueless but that’s how she’s supposed to be, because there’s another……. spoilers . The side characters are very likable too; my favorites are Aina and Carmain. The Royal Knights are a fun bunch too that I wish I could see more of them (in the FD, please? ;;w;;). And of course, Gil and Tier Blade. Let’s not forget about them (´°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥ω°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥`)

As for my character ranking, let’s just say it’s Sud >> Cradle >>> Atharva > Row >>> Yajur.

Thoughts

MECHA. Tier Blade of Etenity is, basically, Otomate’s attempt to to make a mecha otome game. A good chunk of the game is about mecha and scifi so better keep that in mind if you want to play the game. There are lots of technical terms and jargons, and sleep-inducing gundam mecha battles (I’m still waiting for an Otomate game that will have good fight scenes like Hyakka Hyakurou) which may turn some people off, but there are still so many things likable about the game.

First is the theme. Sure, it’s obvious that it’s futuristic and mecha, but if you pay close attention to the smaller themes, the game is even more interesting. I won’t explain more of them because spoilers, but some of the themes I like are 1) “insanity caused by being alone and/or alive for thousand of years” 2) “big countries exploiting poor countries” and 3) LOYALTY. I just wish the writers expounded more about these interesting themes because I think they played safe by making the game short. There are lots of interesting stuff that can be explained properly, if only the game is longer. I hope the FD will be something like Norn9 Last Era that explained so many stuff from the first game ;;w;;

The art is also very beautiful. There are two artists for the game but it’s not too obvious because they were able to blend the two styles, which is really awesome. The CG gallery interphase is also very clean and beautiful I swear I can stare at it for hours ♡

And then there’s… the music! The opening and ending are so good they’ve been on loop on my playlist ever since I finished the game ;;w;; I say, if not the art, the music is the best part of the game.

And have we mentioned mecha? Did I say that it will make people not like the game? Actually no, it will make the people play game the game! I’m not into mecha and I do think some of the mecha battles in the first part of the game are, well, boring, but they get really cool especially during the climax. And for sure everyone will like Tierblade once they see that true ending (´°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥ω°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥`)

The game has lots of deus ex machina? Not really. The final battle in the True End is exactly how it’s supposed to be and it’s not by some miracle that it ended like that. Though, I think the solution to the problems in some route (cough*Atharva*cough) really is… ??? ww. Nonetheless, if you accept that the nanomachine can really do a lot of stuff in this universe, then you’ll be good.

To those worried about the system, rest assured that it is very easy. It’s not difficult to navigate through the Neosphere map which only appears, like, five times in each route. Collecting junks in easy too, just make sure to visit all the possible places in the map in order not to miss anything. Don’t be like me who missed to pick up a single garakuta and spent an extra hour looking for it in order to platinum the game ^_^;

Conclusion

I really really wish that the game is longer. There are so many things that could’ve been expounded on if only they added maybe two more chapters (´°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥ω°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥`). Overall, Tier Blade of Eternity is not the best but it’s still pretty good, with nice art, music, and awesome mecha to boot.
